英会話レッスンの担当の Matt 先生による英語慣用句習得のための1日1英会話です。

Question of time

Certain to happen.

いつか起こることが確実である。

" The acquisition of the company is still in doubt. Our jobs however, well that's just a question of time."

この会社の買収については、まだ確実ではない。だが、私たちの職については、時間の問題といえよう。（仕事がなくなるかも、ということ。）

日本語でも「時間の問題」といいますが、英語にも同じ概念があるのは面白いですね。いつかはわからないが、将来、必ず起こるといういう意味です。

本来はonly a question of time または just a question of time といいますが、単にa question of time ともいいます。また、question のかわりに、matter という場合もあります。
